The 1881 Census shows that Phillip J Behr, a 56 year old widow and a British subject born in Germany was a Beer House Keeper, and his 18 year old daughter, Mary A C Behr, who was born in Brighton, was a barmaid.[2]

Mentioned in the Edinbugh Gazette on 11 August 1896[3] and the London Gazette on 25 August 1896[4] in relation to the insolvency of Obed Hallett, described as occupying a slaughter-house at the rear of the pub.
