The firm was founded in about 1821 by Richard Tamplin, trading for much of its 19th century life as Tamplin and Son until it was incorporated as a limited company in 1889. The firm was renamed Tamplin's Brewery Ltd in 1962, and later became part of the Phoenix Brewery Co Ltd, taking its name from the brewery at Brighton which served the Company since its early days.[1]
